The School of Biological and Chemical Sciences (SBCS) is one of the largest Schools within the college covering Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Biomedical Sciences as well as Psychology; is committed to excellence in research and teaching; and offers a lively and stimulating environment for both staff and students. In this role, you will work in support of the Teaching Technician Manager, and have responsibility for: the day-to-day operational management of the Chemistry teaching laboratories and store; the supervision and coordination of the technical team to ensure exemplary technical support for all Chemistry teaching activities, ensuring the set up and clearing down of practicals, (e.g. preparing chemicals/reagents/equipment); the provision of expert advice, training and troubleshooting services to all laboratory users; working flexibly and promoting a team-oriented approach in support of SBCS overall; role-modelling Health and Safety compliance to maintain a positive safety culture in the Chemistry Teaching Laboratories. You must have a relevant BSc degree (or equivalent), a good understanding of concepts in chemistry and biochemistry, as well as demonstrable skills in laboratory management. Experience in supervising and motivating other employees (preferably technicians), and a comprehensive knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH regulations are essential. You should also have a willingness and ability to learn new skills and experimental techniques and to foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement within the teaching technical team, as well as with students. This is a full time permanent role. The salary will be in the range of £31,735 - £37,275 per annum.
